The Toronto TimeWarp VR Experience at Fort York National Historic Site is among the largest virtual reality tours in the world.
As you walk around this historic site and look into a virtual reality (VR) device, you will find yourself immersed in historical events that took place right where you're standing. See first hand the land of the Anishinaabe before European settlement; experience the thundering explosion of the Grand Magazine during the 1813 Battle of York; witness the first railways roll into Toronto during the 1850s; and behold the rise of the Gardiner Expressway a century later.
Eight VR experiences and nine audio exhibits will lead you through key moments in Canadian history that changed this city forever. Come to Fort York - the birthplace of Toronto - and travel through time with the magic of virtual reality.
You'll need to buy a ticket on this website; just make sure to select "Reserve Devices" when you do. Also bring government issued photo I.D. when you come to the Fort to collect your devices. Headphones are included. Of course, if you have your own higher quality headphones or earbuds, you are welcome to use them. Our rental season for devices is from May 1 through to October 31.
If you already have an Android smartphone and headphones, you can bring them and get a discount. If you have a Google Cardboard or compatible VR case bring them as well to get the full experience. Just be sure to download the Toronto TimeWarp app to test if your Android smartphone is compatible before you arrive at the Fort. It's a large app so it's best to download it over Wi-Fi. Samsung Gear VR and iOS are coming soon.
Wear comfortable shoes! The Toronto TimeWarp Experience runs winter, spring, summer, and fall. Bring a water bottle or a thermos and be ready to go on a two hour expedition. But avoid carrying heavy bags. There is no bag check at Fort York.
Tickets must be purchased on this website and will be emailed to you. Please bring your tickets with you and check-in at the Fort York Visitor Centre. You will need your purchase code to begin your VR experience.
Admission to Fort York National Historical Site, the Toronto TimeWarp VR Experience, VR device rental, and all other free events onsite are included. The Toronto TimeWarp VR experience is 2½ hours, but your ticket gives you access to beautiful Fort York for the entire day. You're welcome to explore the Fort before and after the Toronto TimeWarp VR Experience.
If you rent a device: Adult $26.01 | Seniors (65 +) $22.00| Youth (13 - 18) $20.02 | Child (6-12) $17.99
If you bring your device: Adult $23.02 | Seniors (65 +) $19.01 | Youth (13 - 18) $17.03 | Child (6-12) $15.00
Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. The Toronto TimeWarp VR Experience runs regardless of the weather. If, by fault of Fort York or because of an Act of God as defined by the laws of Ontario, you are unable to redeem your ticket, you will receive a credit voucher allowing you to make another reservation for a period of up to one year from the date of your cancelled visit.
Toronto TimeWarp VR at Fort York National Historic Site is a two and half hour experience that provides fun for the whole family. Adults and children will step back in time to experience the history of Fort York through visual and audio exhibits. Questions to ask yourself include: Will they be able to spend 2 1/2 hours on their feet? Are their hands big enough to grasp a VR case and hold it up to their faces for a couple of minutes during a VR experience? Do they have enough focus and interest to listen to a minute-long narration before a VR experience? These are the kind of considerations that will help you determine if Toronto TimeWarp VR at Fort York is suitable for your child. Children 12 and under are not permitted to purchase a ticket on their own and can only participate when supervised by an adult.
We do not recommend prolonged exposure to virtual reality for both children and adults. For your safety and comfort, no single Toronto TimeWarp VR experience at Fort York lasts more than 2 minutes. There will be plenty of breaks in between VR and audio exhibits. Moreover, the Toronto TimeWarp VR case is never strapped to your face, but is hand-held and always under your control. Read our Terms and Conditions to learn more about safety considerations.
